The D4D is using about 20% less fuel. The rav4 uses a diesel around 2 litres, they've been available in the UK for quite some time. The 2KD engine (2.5L) seems to have disappeared in NZ. Maybe they weren't selling enough but all the 2wd hiluxs now use the 3.0 1KD. The 2KD had a wastegated turbo.

The Toyota 1KD-FTV is a 3.0 L (2,982 cc, 182 cu·in) four-cylinders, four-stroke cycle water-cooled turbocharged internal combustion diesel engine, manufactured by the Toyota Motor Corporation. The Toyota 1KD-FTV engine has a cast-iron block with 96.0 mm (3.78 in) cylinder bores and a 103.0 mm (4.06 in) piston stroke for a capacity of 2,982 cc Considering that Innova is a heavy vehicle. Based on a short test drive at the Fort, the vvti (despite having lesser torque than a d4d) actually accelerates marginally quicker than the d4d. The d4d engine comes alive at 40kph and above. Funny, my experience with the Innovas was the other way around.

The 1KZ-TE is a 3.0 L (2,982 cc), 4 cylinder, SOHC, 2 valves per cylinder turbo diesel engine with indirect injection. Bore and stroke are 96 mm × 103 mm (3.78 in × 4.06 in), with a compression ratio of 21.2:1. Maximum output is 130 PS (96 kW; 128 hp) at 3600 rpm with maximum torque of 287 N⋅m (212 lb⋅ft)⋅m (212⋅ft) at 2000 rpm.

Kenwick, WA. 09/12/2023. 2,232. Apr 27, 2010. #3. Yay, an engine oil thread finally - probably the most subjective topic we ever get onto. The wider the temp range, the more you're going to pay, so a 5W-50 is serious money compared with say 15w-40. 15W-40 is probably adequate for 99% of UK use. If you're worried about winter chills, then go for the 10W-40.
The crankshaft for the 1KD-FTV engine had eight balance weights and five journals, while the pin and journal fillets were roll-finished. The crankshaft bearings were made from aluminium alloy and had micro-grooved lining surfaces to optimise oil clearance for better cold-engine cranking performance and reduced engine vibrations; the upper main bearing had an oil groove around its circumferences.
